As promised yesterday, we’re gonna preview the many terrific illustrators and writers that the new Holmes Incorporated project will be showcasing, many of whom will be in print for the very first time! I think you’ll agree with me that the skills these creators are showing off are off-the-scale for folks on the front end of their careers.
Here ya go! More preview pages. Writer Kathleen Gallagher and artist Eden Bachelder bring us their story featuring the teenage sword-carrying martial-artist / secret agent, Sherlock Holmes the III. Known to her friends as “Trey”.
And hey! Let’s never forget the splendiforous lettering of K.T. Smith! Let the parade of excitement continue!
Whoops! Clues? In a Holmes story? I’ll bet that leads somewhere…
And you can find out when you buy the preview issue at FAN EXPO CANADA or online after the show!
Let Eden and Kathleen know what you think of ’em in the comments section. Go all rah-rah, both because they deserve it, and because it will make you feel good.
Ty the Guy OUT!

See, this is why iPad are so important in society now. When we look at these previews, our drool will actually hit the device we are reading. That doesn’t work when the monitor is on the desk vertically in front of you, it just makes for a soggy shirt.
Cheers!

looks good, I hear this Holmes INC comic is gonna be great!
Ooooh, yay! Thanks for the feature. And the lettering looks GREAT! Love the sign and title fonts and everything. It’s lovely!
Thanks! Keiren was worried when I designed the fight poster that I was adding words that weren’t in the original script (one night only, Mixed Martial Arts, etc.) But I said, “I’m editor, and I get to do what I want.”
Just kidding…I think it looks good too. And that font for the title lettering is tres cool, I wish I had that font, but K has a million and I have about forty.
Good stuff!
This looks awesome. the different styles really sell the different kinds of stories and I love the hand toning. How Eden does that withut making a mess like I would end up doing blows my mind!
Eden is very very very committed to her art, and takes pains that most artists would balk at. For instance, she has been known to make miniatures of the backgrounds and use them for reference photos. Hey, we’ve added a few more samples of story from a few more writer/artist teams…what do you think of the newer pages?
Thanks, anonymous! What Ty said. I’m a little bit… abnormal, shall we say, in my working method?
I’ve also done a fair bit of pencil portraiture, so I know my way around hand toning quite well. I start with very hard pencils for lightly shaded, filled areas, and bring in the B shades only where necessary. I never gouge the paper if I can help it. And the fine-point stick eraser is definitely a friend.
