I’ve been meaning to mention this for days now, as it’s just too stupid to keep to ourselves. In Toronto, where I live and slave away at drawing the Simpsons Comics this month, (and finishing Johnny Canuck’s NORTHERN GUARD, and waiting for art in an upcoming issue of Mad Magazine, and, of course Marvel’s AGE OF HEROES is still on sale…plugging boy TY), the local laws have become amusing.
Now, we Canadians long got over the gay marriage and socialized medicine stuff….that’s everyday life around here. But lately in Toronto, the two big legal stories concern the recent court order making prostitution legal, and the recent by-law making it illegal to park more than one car in your driveway.
Freedom comes in many shapes and sizes.
Ty the Guy OUT!
This post wasn’t about comics, so you get no moment of zen. Sorry, but rules must be followed if order is to be maintained.
So, being in Arizona, I know that when we need health care, we can just stop off at the 2nd Amendment Store on our way to taking it from our northern neighbor. And, don’t expect to park in my driveway when you come to visit, I’ll have Jan Brewer call Sheriff Arpiao (sp) on your illegal butt…

As I understand the ruling, prostitution isn’t exactly legal, it’s just not a criminal offense, meaning someone arrested for prostitution won’t have a criminal record for the offense. As far as the parking goes, I believe you can have as many cars in your driveway as your garage will hold.
Sorry, Ty. Ain’t I a stinker?
Ty’s sleeping, so I’m passing these on for him–
No, you can only, by the new law, have only two cars in your laneway:
And, technically, prostitution wasn’t illegal in Canada–but it was illegal to solicit for prostitution or to live off the proceeds. Neither is true anymore, so there is no reason to arrest any one for anything to do with prostitution or sex work, under the current legal situation:
I’ll leave it to you to decide if you’re really a stinker! 😉
What if you were engaged in prostitution while parked in a driveway? Loophole?
I would think if you were engaged in prostitution, or profiting from prostitution, while parked in a driveway, then what would happen would depend on how many other cars are parked in the driveway.
Sounds like it may depend also on how many cars could fit in the garage, that does not seem very clear yet.

1) What my wife said. Prostitution is now utterly legal in all its forms.
2) Something like 75% of the houses in Toronto have a one-car garage, if they have a garage at all. So yes, the law more specifically allows two cars if you have a two car garage, but brevity in the post was my watchword, and the majority of home owners are restricted to just one car.
What if you don’t have a garage? You can’t park in your own driveway? Can you park in somebody else’s driveway? Can you have more cars in the driveway than will fit in your garage if other people park them there?
