Not quite Bun Toons Day

bun toon under construction

So many possibilities for Bun Toons this week…but so little time. On top of working on some more Batman 66, I’m at CANSCAIP’s Packaging Your Imagination conference today, talking about writing comics (for children and young adults).

Bun Toons should be up tomorrow…

Remember back in the summer, in those innocent days when we didn’t think the Rob Ford scandal could actually get any worse? When the crack video scandal first erupted, my son Kellam Templeton-Smith imagined a reality where Rob Ford was just a dedicated public servant investigating the ability to buy crack so he could best figure out how to save his city from it. Kellam (at George Brown College in their Game Development Program) tested out his skills for a quickie digital painting. This is the result and your bonus Rob Ford comic moment of the week:

Nepotism Nerd Alert!

So, I’m married, I have kids and cats, and even a daughter-in-law.  Naturally, the family considers my interest in comics and pop-culture a weird novelty that they want nothing to do with.  I just have to compromise with them, and keep the Doc Savage posters in the basement and the Simpsons McDonalds Cups out of the kitchen.

Yeah, right.

My family is as deep into this stuff as I am.  Sometimes, MORE.

My daughter-in-law, Jessica Costley,  has set up a site to show off her mastery of the cake in general, and the geek-cake in specific.   Since I am Master of the Land of the Internet, I get to show off some of the special cakes that arrived at my house as beautiful artwork, which I then had to watch as they were EATEN RIGHT BEFORE MY EYES!!

Enjoy.  Envy me my world of exceptional baked goods!

This is a cake Jessica made for my teen son Taylor’s birthday earlier this year. He’s a huge fan of the cartoon show Archer. This not only has the tinfoil swan but (not shown in this angle of the photo, unfortunately) there are tiny little fondant ants surrounding it. I’m not sufficiently up on my “Archer” to know, but I am told that this will make Archer fans giggle with glee.

ARcher cake

I get to eat things that look like this all the time.  Best eaten after defeating the Kang/Darkseid team-up that threatened two universes!

cupcakes

Superhero cupcakes done for an event at The Comic Book Lounge & Gallery, my local comic shop, downtown Toronto.

This isn’t a hobby, by the way, Jessica is a professional baker, so when she goes in to work, this is the sort of thing she does:

Doin' it like it's no big thang.

Doin’ it like it’s no big thang.

It’s the ‘geek’ themed cakes, especially for kids birthdays, that she likes to do though.

flash cake

Flash birthday cake

My sons are all huge video game fans and sometimes their birthday cake will reflect their latest favourite. Last year, Sean was all about Skyrim and Jessica was happy to oblige with this cake. The horns were primarily layers of fondant–Sean tried biting into one and his eyes crossed from the sugar rush.

Skyrim cake

Not sculpture, but cake.  Skyrim cake for Sean’s 13th birthday, September 2012

This year, Sean is all about Dark Souls. Jessica made this cake topper of Solaire of Astora for his cake.

And now…for her latest piece de resistance! My pals Hope Nicholson and Rachel Richey just met their fundraising goal for their Kickstarter project to reprint Nelvana of the Northern Lights comics. They had originally planned to have a party to lobby for funds–it ended up as a celebration of their success (although the Kickstarter is STILL going. Check it out and see what you can contribute–I think they might be adding in some extra goals as it continues). The highlight of the party (I’ve been told) was Jessica’s amazing cake.

Nelvana cake

Behold Nelvana, Cake of the Northern Lights.

So check out Jessica’s site, Jess Costley:  Cake Decorator.  And here’s the bestest part!  If you live in the Toronto area, you can order one of these delightful edible objects through her site!  Don’t stampede all at once, she’s only one woman.  All are served on a first geek basis.

Why should I be the only one getting to swallow Thor’s hammer every now and then?

(Straight line delivered…internet responds in five…four…three…)

And now, for further nepotism:

You guys already know my wife, Keiren is a comic book colour artist, and it’s always a joy to get to show off her latest work.

Page 4

There’s quite a bit of storytelling that the colourist is responsible for.  Getting your eye to move to the right spot, the right detail, takes as much skill as the artist drawing the page.  The lady is good at this stuff.

Page 7

These are preview pages from the new series “THE FIRST HERO”, from publisher, ACTION LABS.  The book was written by former Bootcamper Anthony Ruttgaizer, with art by Phillippe Sevy, covers by Lee Moder.

Page 9I’m lucky, I got to read the comic complete with word balloons, and it’s a heck of a ride.  You guys have to wait, and tap the floor nervously with anticipation.

Page 14The series launches in the new year, but I’ll come back to whet the appetite now and then.  There’s too many fun pages in this book to keep them ALL to myself, while I have access to the files….heee heee. The book is in the last hours of an IndieGoGo campaign so check out the link here and see what you can contribute ($5 gets you a digital download of all four issues) The F1rst Hero on IndieGoGo.

Heck…while I’m promoting…here’s a link to TY TEMPLETON’S COMIC BOOK BOOTCAMP,  my one-room schoolhouse teaching tomorrow’s comic book superstars.  New classes in pencilling start in a couple of weeks.  If you’re in the Toronto area, we’d love to have you!

This is called "branding" when I keep showing you this logo. It's working...it's working...

Click here to be taken to the Bootcamp site for a description of the next classes.

There might be cake.

Ty the Guy, nepotism promotions OUT!

Nepotism Friday! Keiren Smith edition!

I always talk about how busy I am around here, creating fine comic book based entertainment for the masses with all those crazy knucklehead characters I get to write and draw….

Like my wildly hysterical script for Avenging Spider-Man #8, (cover by Shane Davis, interiors by Matt Clark), due in stores in just eleven weeks! Silver Sable and Doc Strange Guest Star! Order yours today!

…but my wife has been doing so much colouring work around the funnybook biz lately that this month, she’s got more to read out there than I do.

So, because you should love her as much as I, I’m showing off some pages from her most recent work, with links to where you can read it online.  Who says my home in Toronto isn’t the House of Ideas?  Oh, this Cease and Desist order from Marvel  does.    Well, OTHER than this legal restraint?  Who?  Who?

First up:  A few teaser pages from a HEROES OF THE NORTH story about their characters Nordik and Eightball, available as an online comic book before the print edition comes out later (from Ardden Entertainment; the first omnibus collection sold out, so grab the second one as soon as you see it!-kts).  Read it while it’s free, fans, it just went online a few days ago.

I LOVE the blues she chose.  The pencil and ink artwork is by my friend David J. Cutler, who did the fun-but-hard-to-find-a-copy-of Johnny Canuck and the Northern Guard comic book with me last year.  I just can’t seem to quit David J., but one look at these pages and you can see why I’m a fan.

The lesson of this tale seems to be:  Ladies, dress warmly for cold weather.  Either that or it’s a thrilling murder mystery with cool action sequences and gunfights and stuff, like a good comic book should be.   All in glorious colour for LESS than a dime!  Beat that!

I dig the first panel on this page!

So click on over and read this story and show our Canadian comic book creators a little love.  It’s even better with the word balloons, though it covers up the pretty drawings and the pretty colours.

Keiren also just finished colouring a project called “Taking Flight” for writer Stephen Sutherland and artist Garry McLaughlin, who hail from Glasgow, a town with even more foreboding weather than Toronto.

If you're getting a "Frank Quitely" vibe, you're not alone.

This is the just the first three pages.  It’s available for pre-order at Laser Age Comics, but it won’t be printed up until April 9, so you’ll have to pace and bite at your nails until then.  I really like the colour work my one-and-only did on these pages.  The sense of quiet and peace as this character learns what it’s like to fly is really brought across by the palette she chose.

Here’s a page from a YMCA comic book project Keiren finished a few weeks ago…

The Adventures of Y Guy, written by another Holmes Inc. alumnus Kathleen Gallagher

Pencil art by Christopher Yao this time around…an alumnus of the Holmes Incorporated comic books I put out every year with the Toronto Cartoonists Workshop.  You can read the story here, and pick up the comics at local YMCAs in the Toronto area.

Just so you don’t think I’m a completely lazy sod, I have an issue or two of Ultimate Spider-Man Adventures coming up that I’ve done script and art chores for a story, as well as an issue of the Simpsons I wrote and drew, due in stores any time.  And my OWN Heroes of the North 12 pager in the pipeline for early summer.  Oh, and don’t forget tasty, tasty BACON!! (more on this as it crisps and develops).

But you guys get enough of me around here.

Check out the work of my own personal comic book colourist (her deviantART site), and let her know she’s pretty good at this gig.

Ty the Guy OUT!

Here now, your Keiren Templeton-Smith Bun Toon Bonus Moment:

One of Keiren's first appearances as a bunny in a Bun Toon from the early 90s!

I know I shouldn’t Granito…but…

My friend, Eden Bachelder sent me this delightful image by email last night, and it so cracked me up, I just had to share.

She chose my favorite Rob Granito “look-I-can-prove-I-painted-that” image as her basis for my portrait, too.  This is the one with paint smudges all over his face, but not on his hands (or the brush, for that matter), and the collection of children’s poster paints to the side, the brand of choice for pro illustrators everywhere.

I know the ROB GRANITO scandal is over, and I know I shouldn’t have brought it up again…but…the way Eden incorporated the look on my face as I glare back at Rob for his naughty shenanigans, it’s like a Norman Rockwell treasure.

We’ll consider this my April Fool’s Day Joke, I just couldn’t wait.

Ty the Guy

Just so you know, Eden’s does some delightful “legitomite” artwork when not creating insider meta jokes for your entertainment, and you should check out her website at http://www.edenbachelder.com/

Saturday Doctor Funnies and INKING BOY!

It’s the weekend.  I know this because I own a calendar, and because Jon Stewart wasn’t on last night.

Admit it. The first Saturday I don't have a new webtoon up, you'll be mad at me.

As a bacon eating Canuck,  it’s fun to sit outside the States and see what they’re up to.  And though we get all our health care for free up here, no questions asked, I can still see…

It’s funny because it’s preposterously reductive.

Now, besides being the weekend, it’s ALSO my eldest son’s birthday.  Kellam Templeton-Smith is an actual ADULT nowadays, which is a bizarre thought.  But with his adulthood came some impressive talents, and now that I have your attention, I thought I’d show off my boy’s skill as a comic book inker.  (And if any editors are here and want to hire the lad, I doubt he’d object!)  These are inked over blue-line reproductions of the pencils, given to my boy by various pencilers here and there.  Enjoy the range of the inking skill…(proud papa cannot shut up.)

First up:  Kellam inks over Ed McGuinness pencils – in the Batcave.

And now, Kellam over top of Joe Madureira

and Kellam over some pages of Witchblade pencils.  (Can’t recall the penciler’s name because I have a brain like a sieve).

I wish I was this skilled with a brush when I was 22!

Happy Birthday Kellam.  See you for dinner later tonight!

TY THE GUY OUT!

Here now, your COMIC BOOK moment of ZEN (I think I actually drew some of this comic!)

Canada Day

You’re gonna see a lot of Canadian flags today…so I thought it would be a good time to do a re-post. This was originally posted January 14, for Nepotism Thursday.

Nepotism Thursday

A quick little read from Ty’s brother, Brad Templeton, as to whether their father, Charles Templeton, had any top-secret involvement in the creation of the current Canadian flag.

Michael Templeton, Charles Templeton, Ty Templeton, Brad Templeton (not present: sister Deborah Burgess)

Keiren

Personally…I think the story is nonsense.  My father wouldn’t have helped design our national flag, and then kept it a secret.  It’s absolutely not in his nature to not brag.  Fun to think about, though.

Of course, Dad still killed Elvis.  That a family legend I won’t see denied.

Ty the Guy

MARTIN LANDAU IS MY FATHER AND SATAN IS HIS MASTER

My original father, Charles Templeton and tent preacher Billy Graham (and some other guy) pick up some lovely ladies for a night of worshipping God together back in the forties.

THE MOST ASTOUNDING, STRANGE, BUT TRUE  STORY OF MY LIFE.

I try to lead an odd life.  I have sought out bizarre places and unusual experiences, with social tastes that include Mennonites, strippers, TV celebrities, magicians, bisexual nudists, rock stars, and comic book artists…all are welcome at the Templeton home.

But it’s starting to get weird around here.

I just found out my father was actually Martin Landau ( the man in charge of the runaway Moon) and an agent of Satan.  And it’s somehow the fault of the beast-man from a Disney movie.

THAT’s the kind of weird I can enjoy.

Come to me, my child, for I am your father...your FAAAATHER!

DRAMATIS PERSONAE

This used to be my dad. Before the recent revelations.

Charles Templeton (my original dad), was a professional cartoonist, journalist, inventor, politician and a fixture of Canadian television for decades.  He tossed off a bunch of best selling novels (one of which killed Elvis) and wrote the story for a crappy Bill Shatner movie that no one saw.  Dad was also one of the more important figures in 20th Century evangelism, who, along with his partner and friend, Billy Graham, built up the YOUTH FOR CHRIST ministry in the thirties and forties—until father got some book learnin’, lost his faith, and walked away from the God biz.  To make things worse, Dad more or less shuffled evangelism onto TV along the way, for which our family owes humanity an apology, and I give it freely and often.  SORRY, humanity.  Our bad.

Billy Graham is a very famous preacher (and not-as-famous anti-Semite, as the Nixon  tapes ably demonstrated).  Billy believes in God all the time.  He super-believes in God.  More than you do, trust me.

Look at me. This is my "believing in God" face!

Martin Landau (my new dad), is a talented actor, who was in Hitchcock’s NORTH BY NORTHWEST, played a screen vampire in ED WOOD, piloted a rogue moon in SPACE 1999, and killed bad guys while wearing a rubber mask on MISSION IMPOSSIBLE.  That’s all damn skippy-cool, and every one of you knows it.

Martin Landau. New Taste Dad.

Robby Benson is an A-list cartoon voice, and a B-list actor turned C-list director.  Like most of Western civilization, I don’t think about Robby Benson unless the singing teapot is on my TV.

Robbie Benson in his best known screen performance as a drawing.

Satan. Religious tempter.  Tricky lawyer.  World’s second best fiddle player.

Charlie Daniels cheated somehow, I swear it.

AND NOW, THE STRANGE BUT TRUE STORY

And.....ACTION!

In 2008, cartoon lion-man Robby Benson, directed a film about the early years of Billy Graham. It’s supposed to be a true story.  Robby called it “BILLY: THE EARLY YEARS” because that’s the keen, inventive mind working inside the Benson skull hole.

The poster of the Movie of the Century.

I first heard about this film last year when my brother, Brad Templeton,  sent me to the movie’s promotional website (here) and there was a clip with actor Kristoffer Polaha.

Young dad, from Billy: the Early Years.

(from Mad Men) playing my father as a young evangelist.    I’m not fond enough of Billy Graham to sit through some two hour hand-job docu-nonsense, just to catch a scene where someone plays my dad, so I watched the YouTube clip and thought little more about it.

Dad on his death bed. Clearly having a pleasant time.

But my brother found a DVD copy of B:TEY (as the fans call it) last week and watched it.  He reports that Dad ain’t no cameo character in this here picture.  Instead, the story is told entirely from the point of view of my aged father (played by Martin Landau), opening up a floodgate of Templeton memories about young Preacher Billy, and their time together, in a deathbed interview that dad gave to some reporter, days before the end.  Pops tells the eager scoop-monger a golden age buddy picture tale, featuring two cocky church boys, fightin’ for Christ, with Billy the smiling, blonde hero, and my father an agent of Satan who works to tempt away Graham’s faith and destroy the church from within.

Yup.  An agent of Satan.

Say.... Wouldn't you rather do something evil?

I haven’t seen it yet but, according to my brother Brad, in the story, Dad tempts Billy.  He lies to God.  He fakes his way to the pulpit, more or less as an agent of the dark lord, and converts to Christianity with his fingers crossed behind his back, so it doesn’t count.

Fooled ya! I'm so clever like that.

When I was a kid, and my father would spank me for setting the back yard on fire, I suspected he was an agent of Satan.  Now I have proof.

But I am confused.  See, my father suffered from Alzheimer’s in the last years of his life, and couldn’t tell his wife and kids from a well stuffed throw pillow, let alone give death bed interviews to anyone.   If  Dad was as likely to have a conversation with an oak tree as a reporter in those final weeks of his life, then the entire premise for this “true story” is invented bullshit, pulled directly from the asses of screenwriters WILLIAM PAUL McKAY and JANA LYN RUTLEDGE.

The screenwriters, in their best known photo.

William Paul McKay came to this film after a lifetime of no screenwriting credits whatsoever because one  doesn’t want one’s authors tainting up their vision with prior experience or a familiarity with “formula”.  And you can’t toss a rookie at the blank page without a well-seasoned old hand  like  co-author Jana Lyn Rutledge to guide them.  Jana  penned a single  episode of a Christian Children’s Show called CIRCLE SQUARE a mere thirty one years previous to this epic flick.

With these savvy show biz veterans at the helm, it didn’t matter if they didn’t research their subject, talk to his family, or discover that Dad had Alzheimer’s.  Those were “facts”, and with any film about religion, you can’t let irrefutable facts get in the way of a good yarn.    It turns out I’m not the only offspring of Jesus-Starsky or Christ-Hutch in this religious buddy road-trip that didn’t like this goofy flick.  Billy Graham’s son thinks the movie is crap, too.

How come I never worked on this series?

But it got made. It exists, and perhaps dozens of people have seen it.  And now I get to count Martin Landau as my father figure since the original model passed away– and I’m comforted to know I have a direct family connection to THE EVIL DARK LORD, should I need one.  Some Marvel Artists get to draw Son of Satan, but I get to live and breathe it, man!  Ladle some of that crazy sauce into your life, and see how it tastes.  I wonder if I went to Martin Landau’s house, would he’d let me sleep over?  Probably I should call first.

By the way, the actor who actually does look like my father, Harry Shearer refused to be involved in the project after watching a thirty-one year old episode of CIRCLE SQUARE which he described as “just awful, even in the CIRCLE SQUARE sub-culture”.

One of these is my father, and one is Harry Shearer, but I can't tell which is which.

Go here, to my brother’s blog and read his review of this Bullshit Billy film.  Later, I’m surfing for a copy to download illegally, as I don’t want to give these folks a dime to watch their monkey theater puppet show.

The NEW GLENN REID CD is done! And so is the Addams Family!

Some fun housecleaning today.

Glenn Reid. The Eveready Bunny of Canadian Pop Country

First off, the latest Glenn Reid cd is done!  It’s dropping, as the kids say, in a couple of weeks.  YAY!  In fact, I was the hold-up, as this should have been out by now, but I am the slightly computer-incompetent package designer

Sorry girls, he's married.

for the project (as well as Glenn’s lightning-fingered keyboard player in his band, I’m still a self-centered bastard in this blog, and that’s why you’re reading this).  See, I’m a long time Photoshop guy, and the printers wanted everything in Illustrator files, which I know next to nothing about.  As a result, I sent the wrong files, with the wrong settings to the wrong ftp, like five times over the space of two weeks, and it’s remarkable that Glenn is still speaking to me, considering what I’ve put him through.

As I say to the ladies, want to see my whole package?

Above, at the top of the blog, is the cover and if you click on the little image to the left, you can see the final package, as sent off to the printers.  Glenn likes the whole thing, and that pleases me.  The cover DOES get across who he is as a performer and as a character, which is “ the Rocky of Canuck Country”.  You cannot make him fall down.  After decades of stomping the floorboards of every bar or hall that had a microphone, and writing mountains of great songs along the way, he’s recently become a survivor of cancer AND the Canadian Music Industry, to produce another terrific collection of fun Saturday Night shitkickers and Slow Dance Ballads.  And like the iconic tortured artist he isn’t, really, Glenn is beloved overseas, but ignored at home.  His latest single SING LIKE JOHNNY CASH is climbing the charts in Europe, where Disneyland’s motto is “Come, and Watch ze Suffering of ze Mouse”. Western Culture 1.0 has embraced our Glenn like Jerry Lewis and runny cheese, but all you highly sophisticated websurfers can listen to all the tracks for free on Glenn’s website, and download ‘em for your ipod-pad-phone-bluetooth-eyewear as an mp3 before the old fashioned version is available in….wait for it….RECORD STORES….hah hahhaaa.  (And you get to perk up your ears every time you hear a piano or organ…it’s Ten-Fingers Templeton).

Oh, wait, the version in record stores will be the only version with my cover art on it.  There’s a back cover, and an inside fold out, and the disc itself has my art on it…wait…record stores…come back!  Come back, record stores, I didn’t mean it!

This is what CDs looked like before mp3 players.

Nah, the 21st Century is still better than the last couple.  Those other centuries SUCKED.

Now this…

Ty was right. Ty is always right. We have spoken.

Yesterday I ranted about the new Addams Family Musical, and today, the New York Times ranted about it, with their review picking apart all the things that were wrong with it that I expected.  And I only saw a five minute sample on Letterman.

Now I feel bad.  As I said, there is a friend involved in this production, and a review this bad might help close it early.  I never like seeing stuff based on cartoons and comics do poorly, as it dampens the chances of the next one being tried… so I wasn’t really hoping for a review this bad.

Nathan Lane and company, lining up for the exits before the audience does.

Read for yourself.  They’re gleefully savage about it over at what used to be the highly respected New York Times.

Later today, after a few hours of actually drawing something I am SO behind schedule on, (with at least TWO Avengers in it, so it’s fun)…HOVERBOY RETURNS!  And don’t forget Weekend Webcomics.

Ty the Guy.

I can't believe I have the audacity to continue to plug this new Simpsons book, in stores now.

Extremely Unseen Marvel Punisher, more Slightly Seen DC and HOVERBOY FRIDAY! plus the big announcement! AND Nepotism Thursday. How long is this $)(*#$)(*##!! Title?!?

As promised, we look at some very unseen Marvel art from the same period.  The image above is from a very fun project I did with my pal SAM AGRO in the 90s.  The comic was “THE PUMMELER“, a parody of one of Marvel’s more popular characters, for a company called PARODY PRESS (best known for Adolescent Hamsters…) but Sam had a ball writing up a tremendous trio of very funny “Mad” style stories.  Worth finding in the back issues, if you can.  The cover to the left was by Sam Keith, who pitched in to help Agro get an audience.   If you follow the Pummeler link above, you’ll see the interior pages!  Sam is a well known storyboard artist who has helped the world be sickened and thrilled by the HUGELY successful SAW series of movies — been part of an academy award winning art team for FLY AWAY HOME–and he boarded tons of episodes of EWOKS and DROIDS in his day.  All that PLUS a loverly run writing great scripts for DC’s Looney Tunes comic book for years.  Is the name LEGEND appropriate?  Considering he’s one of the instructors at the highly esteemed TORONTO CARTOONIST WORKSHOP that I instruct at, I’ll have to say “yes”, LEGEND is the word.) Man, can I plug the pals and co-workers, or WHAT?!?

Watch this segue.   We’re staying with the silly images of the Punisher theme, and moving over to another living legend, Dana Moreshead.  Who is clearly not the name on the card above.  How confused am I?

There, that’s Dana.  And his odd looking pet, the name escapes me, and I don’t want to say Skipper when it was Sparky, or Spanky or Elliot Spitzer, but it was something like that.  I drew that portrait of Dana at least a decade ago, but I’m sure at least ONE of those furry creatures is still cute.  Dana was the Marvel guy who gave me all these wonderfully odd gigs that I’ve been posting for the last two weeks, and he deserves his humble thank you on this blog for the fun, fun art jobs he tossed me atop of.  And hopefully the smile or two he’s bringing the eleven readers of this post as I dig through the original art pile over in the corner and scan baby scan.

So what was that Punisher toy with the human head on it?  And who’s this poor soul with the dragon crapping on his hair?  These were a series of cards that were created for the Marvel staff one summer for convention season.  That way, when they met people, they had a card with some ‘zaz and zing and pep!  And their image on it, so names and faces could match up for business deals, etc.  A good idea, actually.  The gag was to make everyone into their own version of a Marvel Hero.  I did at least four of them (that I’ve found so far).  The funny thing, most of these staffers are NOT a Marvel Character, but a toy version of one, or standing near one.  I’m not sure that conveyed the joke.

I still have tons more fun stuff from the Dana era of Special Projects.  He is still one of my favorite people, even if he no longer gets me work.

Another installment of the AOL Flood Safety messages from 2006.  Sketch and final art.  The only time I ever drew Supergirl for the animated universe, unless you count the toy designs.  Aquaman I’ve drawn lots and lots, he’s featured in the Brave and Bold issue I drew in 2009, but has yet to come out.

But here’s Aquaman warning a man about having adequate storm drains, and not living under a f***ing wall of mud.  That’s so dumb he really deserves to die.

Hoverboy.com is back up and running!  Marcus Moore, fellow curator, and webmaster of the site, was found,  alive and well, after months lost in the barrens with his experimental jet co-pilot, Jarred.    As of this posting, the fate of his experimental jet c0-pilot, Jarred,  has not been revealed, though it can be noted that that Moore seems to have put on weight during his ordeal.  “Plenty of possum in those woods.” is the only response a visibly shaken Moore has given to reporters when asked about his friend, experimental jet co-pilot, Jarred.  We wish he and his family good luck in the future, and keep on looking for that poor kid.

The good news is that Hoverboy.com is once again operational, with a NEW installment of the weekly comic strip reprints.  I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve been sitting on the edge of my seat, waiting for the poor lad to hover away from those clouds, these last few months.  Hovermaniacs the world around, breathe out a sigh of relief.  Go check out the installments we’ve found so far, for this excellent example of heroism and manhood of the golden age!

And now for the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT.  (yeah, like you’re still reading after so long and drawn out a post today…).  Starting NEXT weekend, and every weekend after that, I’ll be posting Ty Templeton Funnies!  Never before seen  material, created to be seen in web form.  Wait…does that make this blog a…

WEBCOMIC?!?!?    Tune in NEXT WEEKEND and see….

Ty the Guy.

MARVEL MADNESS CONTINUES WITH NEPOTISM THURDAYS: VALENTINES ATE MY BRAIN!!

This Lost Marvel March Madness stuff is really too much to put up all at once, or even over the space of one little week, so I might have to post TWICE today, just to get half of the Spider-Man pieces out.

But to start today… Valentine’s Day–a day of love and affection and tension that nearly disrupts a young marriage.  (I should have put these up two weeks ago ON Valentine’s Day, but that’s my daughter’s birthday, and we spend Valentine’s Day differently around here.)

Anyway…this set of Valentine’s Day cards (loosely based on the look of the Spider-Man animated series of the day, though in truth, it’s a little more Batman Animated than it should have been) were to be the first colour job for my wife for Mighty Marvel.  She’s got a great eye for colour, and as I’m a control freak (this comes up later in the story) Continue reading
