It’s been a fun week for American politics.  Whether or not you support Trump, it’s hard not to notice that he’s cavorted into a buzz saw in the last few days.  Russian collusion, obstruction of justice, lying to the press, eating steak with ketchup…it’s all too heinous to believe Trump is a regular old villain….

This is YOUR chance to turn the whole meshuga into a metaphor I can wrap my teeth around.  Please vote for…

We’ll be tabulating votes until he’s impeached…I have money on his not lasting until Christmas.

My first thought was the Ventriloquist…

But the President’s eloquent statement:  “Puppet? No puppet!  You’re the puppet!” rendered this idea moot.

This is not my first time turning Trump into a comic book villain.  Below is a convention sketch I did (at the fan’s suggestion) right after Trump won the election late last year.

And I’m hardly the first one to notice the Trump/Luthor connection…

But again, one of them is actually smart, and both are actually fictional.

In other considerations, I went to see Doctor Strange this week.  It was really entertaining, with some excellent set pieces and a delightful cast. It has the same spirit as ANT-MAN or GUARDIANS of the GALAXY–a surprisingly fun turn for one of Marvel’s lesser stars.

Consider me a Cumberbitch.

I’d like to devote the Bun Toon to the madcap acid-world of Dr. Strange and the man who plays him, Barnabas Cumberland, but the fate of human civilization hangs in the balance, so I have no choice.

Alas.

Just in case there’s ONE persuadable voter reading this Bunny Blog…

 

You know, I didn’t much love Bush, Romney, or McCain, and greatly disliked Nixon and Bush Jr., but none of them convinced me we were seeing the end of American history if they got elected.  It was a matter of degrees with them.

Trump is an extinction event for American democracy.  That’s not hyperbole, that’s a stone fact.

Unconventional Bun Toons! YAY!

I didn’t go to any conventions this week, unlike the rest of the population.

 

While everyone is in San Diego comiconning, I’ve been hanging out at home, going to see Star Trek Beyond (quite good!  yay!) and going through some of my beat-up old Fifties comics…where I came across a cover that seemed far more relevant today than it was when it was first produced in 1958.

 

Of course, it can’t be Donald Trump, he would have been only twelve when this cover was produced, but the portrait bears a striking resemblance to the future Republican nominee.  Perhaps this is a case of life imitating art, and young Donald saw this cover, inspiring him towards a life of public service.

I just riffed the name “Dyno-Lady” while I was writing the above toon, and almost instantly recalled that there’s a genuine  super-hero with NEARLY that name…

This was an old Sid & Marty Krofft produced “Saturday Morning” TV series when I was young.   When trying to find a cover for an issue featuring these protectors of goodness, I discovered they don’t HAVE a comic series.

A TV series?  Sure.  But the MAN is keeping them out of the comics biz, for some reason. That’s another thing Hillary will make better.  Besides saving the planet from a racist orange monster, I mean…

It’s really not funny any more.  We’re only a few weeks away from someone getting seriously hurt or killed at one of these Trump meet-ups.  I’m reminded so much of the lyrics of Elvis Costello’s “Night Rally”, which includes the words “…you think they’re so dumb, you think they’re so funny, wait until they get you running in their Night Rallies”.
