Have you guys checked out the new SUPERGIRL show in CBS this fall?   Too much fun.  It almost makes up for Constantine being cancelled.

Still…if you’re unfamiliar with the MAID OF MIGHT, I’m here to help.

In my spare time this last month, I’ve been re-reading the Supergirl stories from the Fifties and Sixties in my collection (I have nearly all of ’em).  Wow, what a bizarre ride of sexism and patriarchy it all was back then…just like the prevailing culture.

Thank Rao we’ve moved past all that.

Supergirl has a doppelgänger named “Power Girl”, who is from a parallel universe where the inhabitants all have much larger boobs.

Here the two Karas argue about “who wore it sluttier?”

Strangely enough, the parallel world version of Kara is quite popular as a cosplay outfit.

Speaking of strange, the following two panels, from an issue in 1959, still sort of freaks people out…

Then there’s THIS moment.

It’s worth noting, that Supergirl is also a doppelgänger for Lois Lane, Lana Lang and a woman named Lesla-Lar from Kandor….all of whom can seamlessly disguise themselves as Kara Z0r-el without make-up or preparation.

Superman has the hots for ALL of ’em at one point or another.

Apparently women were interchangable in the Fifties.

He’s our first super-hero, if you don’t count Hercules.  And he’s the first super-powered hero in the comics, if you don’t count Popeye.  And he’s our first costumed hero, if you don’t count the Phantom.  Superman was there before any of them, if you don’t count the ones that came before him.

For those who are unfamiliar with his world, here’s…

There.  If you suddenly have to write his adventures, you’ve got a foundation to build from.

I’m not going to do a list of Ty’s credits when there are a number of places online that keep a thorough list…trying to get Ty to remember all the work he’s done always reminds me of a story of the actor Richard Burton*:  a reporter once showed him a list of movies Burton had been in hoping to trigger some interesting anecdotes.  Turns out that Burton had no memory of half of them and kept asking the reporter why he thought he had been in them.  Okay, that was because Burton was a roaring drunk, and Ty doesn’t touch a drop of the stuff…but Ty’s memory is about as bad.

For the first time, I’ve given into 21st Century tech and I’m offering my  work online for sale.  My wife says “Given how hard it is to convince my husband to take work to conventions and actually allow people to hand him money and take the art from him, this is a Very Big Deal.”  She’s right, I’m a pack rat, and some of this stuff has to go!  And I have the free speech rights to shout “FIRE SALE” in a crowded internet.

The first piece for sale is a Justice League Unlimited cover. It was inspired by the opening credits for the show, with a more gyno-centric theme.  When I drew this I was going to keep the cover to give to my daughter someday, but with two Batgirls and a Wonder Woman or two in the original art bin, I’m running out of room, and selling it will keep her in shoes–and she really likes shoes.
